Luna Pier, Michigan

📍Luna Pier, Michigan

Luna Pier was once a bustling resort destination in the early 1900s. Over time, tourism faded, leaving behind an atmosphere many people describe as strangely frozen in time. Empty stretches of shoreline, aging cottages, and quiet off-season streets give the town a liminal feel that naturally feeds ghost stories.

Nearly every Great Lakes region has stories of something enormous beneath the water, and western Lake Erie has its own versions. Around Luna Pier and nearby Monroe County, stories occasionally surfaced about giant fish larger than boats, strange shapes surfacing during storms, something bumping docks or small fishing boats at night.

Most of these stories were probably giant sturgeon, catfish, or pure exaggeration but lake monster lore spread easily in quiet waterfront towns.

Do you think there is something lurking beneath the surface of Lake Erie off the shore of Luna Pier?
